The Importance of Being Engaged: Advocating for Yourself and Your Community

Join Katarina Lisaius, Outreach Representative at Senator Bernie Sanders’ office and Sefakor Komabu-Pomeyle from the Vermont Center for Independent Living Youth Advocacy Council for a dialogue about advocating for yourself, for other people, and for the ideas and issues that are important to you.

The Session will provide an opportunity to tell your story, listen to other people’s experiences and together lift up the helpful, supportive, and inspiring takeaways to help positively change our communities.

Shaping the Future: Current Issues Affecting Youth 

Nine Vermont high school students recently participated in the National 4-H Conference where they explored current issues affecting youth and identified action steps that they presented to federal decision makers. They will share their findings and provide an opportunity for participants to think critically about these issues and how Vermont youth can engage to affect change and make a difference on these topics.
Topics for discussion include:

 -Health Equity
 -Older Youth and Young 4-H Alumni
 -Rural Broadband
 -Volunteer to Career
 -Young Adult Employment

Student Centered Learning: A Documentary and a Journey

Come join Erubey and Galen, youth from Lamoille Union High School who participate in the EPIC program, to talk together about the changes needed in schools to make learning more personalized, relevant, and joyful. They will show a clip from their documentary in progress, invite your feedback, and draw on your experience to connect with new voices in hopes of spreading the learner-centered movement.
